Pop Montreal 2010: Day 1 Picks

And so it begins.

300+ artists playing in dozens of venues around the city from
now till Sunday night.

Big names and up-and-comers alike vying for your attention and your
hard earn money.

I’ll be sharing with you my personal picks, shows I shall be
attending. Sticking mostly to smaller venues and lesser
known artists.

Lost In The Trees @ Casa Del Popolo / 10pm [ ms ]

A sevensome lead by Ari Picker, Orchestral Folk-Pop from the backwoods
of North Carolina.

Their current release “All Alone In An Empty House” is out now on Anti.

Villagers @ Casa Del Popolo / 11pm [ myspace ]

Irish band fronted by singer/songwriter Conor J. O’Brien.

Dark, folk-pop songs their specialty.

Shortlisted for this year’s Mercury Prize (The XX won). In town minus
his band, doing an acoustic set of songs taken from their debut
“Becoming A Jackal” out now on Domino Records.
