Look, I’m with you.

I’m sick of all the remakes, reimaginings, rebootings, retoolings of the movies
from my childhood.

Hollywood is clearly creatively bankrupt that they’re now reduced to making movies out of board games. We’ll be seeing “KerPlunk: The Movie” in a theater soon enough. Until that happens, we’ll be getting remakes after remakes of 80’s movies.

John Carpenter’s “The Thing” was a pretty badass sci-fi/horror film from the early 80’s.

Kurt Russell was at the beginning of his full action star mode where just the year
before, had work with Carpenter on “Escape From New York” and the creature work and ground-breaking make up special effects done by Rob Bottin still holds out today.

I must point out that “The Thing” was in itself a remake of the 1951 original.

This prequel has the same story elements as the Carpenter movie but we experience it from the Norwegians camp site.

Instead of Russell, we get the chick from “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World”, one of the brothers from the just released “Warriors” movie and a first time movie director in Heijningen Jr.

I for one can’t wait to see what they’ve done with it.

To refresh your memories, here’s the trailer from the 1982 classic:
