My Year-End Lists Of 2013
Posted on | December 28, 2013 | No Comments
2013 was a fine musical year.
Will I think back on it fondly 20 years down the line?
Probably not.
It’s definitely the year in which I found the beat.
This top 20 is littered with electro dance records, my number #1 being Disclosure and their critically raved-over debut album Settle.
You have your mix of Shoegaze, Hip Hop and straight ahead rock to fill in the rest.

Top 5 Shows Of 2013:
I’m all about quality over quantity at this stage of my life.
I saw very few shows this year but the ones I did attend I was truly pumped for.
Seeing Sarah Kirkland Snider, a modern classical composer with
Shara Warden a.k.a. My Brightest Diamond in NYC back in February
was a definite highlight.
So was seeing Ken Stringfellow (one half of The Posies) doing his
solo material @ Casa Del Popolo.
Joanna Gruesome tore up the Piano’s stage @ CMJ and hit me in the
right spot.
Finally seeing My Bloody Valentine live last month @ Metropolis
didn’t suck either.
However, I must give the #1 spot to Autolux (shocking I know).
seeing them play in California (their home turf) with new songs in
tow was just about the best live music experience I could ask
for.
My Fav Films Of 2013:
Before Midnight
Gravity
Only God Forgives
Spring Breakers
This Is The End
Before Midnight was THE movie I was waiting for in 2013.
I adore this trilogy, I blogged about it, I even coordinated a trip
to NYC around the weekend it opened.
Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy and Richard Linklater brought their A game to this and if (God forbid) it’s the final chapter, I am truly satisfied.
This Is The End was a close second. Funniest shit I’ve seen in
years. Seth Rogen directing his wealthy, funny friends as themselves in an apocalypse?
Could’ve been the worst kind of vanity project possible but it totally worked.
Gravity was just next level shit. Basically, why I still go to
the movies today i.e. To be blown away and this was quite the technical
marvel to behold.
I still need to see The Wolf of Wall Street, American Hustle and Her to complete the list.
Special mention goes out to the documentaries Adjust Your Tracking: The Untold Story Of The VHS Collector and Rewind This! about film collectors and their love of movies.
