Trailer Thursdays: Django Unchained
Posted on | June 7, 2012 | No Comments
Cast : Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson
Director : Quentin Tarantino
Release Date : December 25, 2012
Synopsis :
Set in the Deep South, it follows Django, a freed slave who treks across America with Dr. King Schultz, a German dentist turned bounty hunter. Together, they try to retrieve Django’s wife from the charming but sadistic Francophile plantation owner Calvin Candie and his band of ruthless slavers.
This is off the chain indeed!
Has it been already 3 whole years since Inglourious Basterds?
My, how time flies.
I will always be down for a QT flick. Whatever the subject matter, I know the man
will deliver. He’s back to what he does best, exploiting the exploitation genre
with another (the Kill Bill flicks beforehand) revenge film.
Back in the 1960s, there was a series of Spaghetti Western films by the name Django and starring one of exploitation’s biggest stars, Italian actor Franco Nero (who has a cameo in the film).
Those were set in the far west (shot on Italian soil), while this is a southern plantation-era western set in Louisiana.
Amazing cast put together here with Foxx, who hasn’t impressed me much
over the years but that could all change here. It also stars Christoph Waltz,
who’s last QT effort, won him the Oscar for his chilling portrayal of Colonel
Hans Landa in Inglorious Basterds and DiCaprio, doing his best
Tom Hanks in The Ladykillers impression, may very well steal
the show playing the dastardly plantation owner.
This looks like a helluva fun time.

Contest: Big Wreck @ Club Soda ( May 15th 2012 )
Posted on | May 7, 2012 | No Comments
Quite the comeback Ian Thornley has had with the re-birth of Big Wreck.
After a 10 year hiatus, their 3rd album “Albatross”, charted #5 on the Canadian Charts and the title track and first single of the album stayed at #1 for 6 straight weeks on the rock singles chart.
3 music videos have already been released:
The album itself is a mix of the old Big Wreck you knew mixed with the rockier side of
Ian’s Thornley solo albums.
If you haven’t had a chance to fill your ears with the new LP, a stream of the whole thing is available right HERE.
IMHO, the best way to experience his music is in a live setting. Mr. Thornley shreds
on the guitar like no other and if you’re a fan of those long guitar solos that actually go somewhere, you’ll get your fill of that goodness.
He’s back on the road with a whole new band (only guitarist Brian Doherty came back from the original lineup) and they will be in town May 15th @ Club soda with Rikers opening.
Thanks to the kind people @ Warner Music Canada, I have a pair of tickets to give away.
