2012 Osheaga Music Festival ( Lineup Announced )

Posted on | March 21, 2012 | No Comments

Spring has sprung and that could only mean one thing: Crocs season is back y’all!

More importantly, the lineup announcement for this year’s Osheaga Music Festival.

Its 7th edition will be held once again @ Parc Jean-Drapeau and because of last year’s success, will continue to be a 3-day affair from August 3rd to the 5th.

The headliners this year include Sigur Ros, The Black Keys, Snoop Dog and Justice.

A notch below them would be The Shins, MGMT, Feist, Bloc Party, M83, Florence And The Machine and Franz Ferdinand.

The Canuck contigent on this year’s bill:

Metric, City And Colour, Kathleen Edwards, Austra, Zeus, Plants And
Animals, The Weeknd, Dumas, Down With Webster, Zed’s Dead, Arkells,
Les Breastfeeders, Dan Mangan, Young Galaxy, Le Matos, Kandle, Hey Ocean!, Karim Ouellet, Propofol.

The young bloods:

A$AP Rocky, Young The Giant, Madeon, Zola Jesus, Of Monsters and Men, Woodkid, James Vincent McMorrow, The Jezabels, Half Moon Run.

The rest of the lineup:

Garbage, Calexico, Amadou & Mariam, Brand New, Yeasayer, Passion Pit,
Portugal. The Man, The Walkmen, Classified, Aloe Blacc, Atlas Sound, Black Lips, Little Dragon, The Black Angels, Gary Clark Jr., The Ravonettes, The Death Set, Freelance Whales, Michael Kiwanuka, Bombay Bicycle Club, Tame Impala, Dum Dum Girls, Graffiti6, Huoratron, Brandt Brauer Frick.

Not terribly excited about this lineup (yet) only because I’ve seen most of those bands in the past I would be into seeing this time around but I must say that Sigur Ros, The Black Keys, Snoop Dog, M83, The Weeknd, A$AP Rocky, The Walkmen and The Ravonettes will make it worth the wicked sunburn I’m sure to be getting around day 2.

Many more acts will be announced in the coming weeks. Wanna stay in the Osheaga loop? then you should probably follow them on the Twitter and on the Facebook.

Passes will go on sale this Friday March 23rd @ Noon. — > TICKETS

However, a presale will go down today at 10am through Osheaga‘s main sponsor Virgin Mobile. Click HERE for more details.

Trailer Thursdays: Frankenweenie

Posted on | March 8, 2012 | No Comments

Cast : Winona Ryder, Martin Short, Catherine O’Hara, Martin Landau, Atticus Shaffer.
Director : Tim Burton
Release Date : October 5, 2012

Synopsis :

After the death of his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of
science
to bring him back to life. Victor tries to hide his creation, but Sparky
gets out and causes havoc in the town.

A parody/homage to Frankenstein and one of Burton’s early creations, This was originally a 1984 stop motion animation short film starring the voices of Shelley Duvall, Daniel Stern, Sofia Coppola and Jason Hervey.

The story goes that Burton was fired from Disney after this was shot because they felt he wasted company money on a pet project that was too scary for children. When Burton hit it big all those years later, it was finally given a 1994 home video release.

Flash forward to today and Disney, in their infinite wisdom, gave the man who gave them gazillions of box office dollars with “Alice In Wonderland”, carte blanche to do a remake, shot in 3D and released in IMAX theaters.

Most of the voice talents for this new production are part of Burton’s stable of talents which includes Winona Ryder (where as she been?), Martin Short, Catherine O’Hara and Martin Landau. The same people who worked on 2005’s “Corpse Bride” are the artists rendering this world to life.

This to me, has the same vibe and potential to be as good as 2009’s “Coraline” with the same kind of dark overtones with the added bonus of that off kilter Burton touch.

Feast your eyes on the original short film:
